Apple Funnel Cake Fritters – Chef Jackie of All Trades

Fall is here and that means it’s also Fair time! Fair foods are so greasy and fattening, yet so yummy!

How would you feel is I could offer you some recipes that would give you that fair food vibe without all of the calories and regret??? It sounds like a win for me!!!

I have already shared my healthy alternative to turkey legs with my dad’s recipe for Pinchos or Puerto Rican Kebabs.

I took a poll to see what everyone’s favorite fair food was and funnel cake became an astounding favorite. Funnel cakes are delicious but definitely not great for your health.

So I started thinking of different ways and pulled up my handy dandy Pinterest! I found a lot of keto funnel cakes with a bunch of ingredients that I couldn’t even pronounce.

Then it hit me, like Newton sitting under the tree. Apples!!! Why not make a funnel cake out of apples? So without further ado, here is my own recipe for Apple Funnel Cake Fritters.

Apple Funnel Cake Fritters Recipe

You will need the following ingredients:

Ingredients to make Apple Funnel Cake Fritters
  • 3 medium apples
  • 1/2 cup of flour or corn starch
  • Spiralizer
  • 1/4 cup of Coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • Canola Oil for frying

Apple Funnel Cake Fritters: Directions

  1. Fill your pan with approximately 2″ of oil and heat it to 350 degrees.
  2. Wash and peel your apples
  3. Spiralize the apples. I recently bought one and this is the most handy tool to have in your kitchen and for such an affordable price! This tool can be used to make zucchini noodles and so much more!
  4. Mix together the cinnamon and sugar and set aside.
  5. Dust the apples evenly with flour. For an added crunch use corn starch as it will absorb the liquid in the apples better. (my grandma’s tip)

6. Toss in the apples in a few batches at a time into the oil and fry them up until they are a light golden brown. They will crisp up once cooled.

7. While they are warm, toss the apple fritters with the cinnamon sugar.

8. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces like caramel or nutella

Notes

*If you have an air fryer, maybe try this recipe doing that instead. If might be more healthy and it may turn out even more crunchy.

*These fritters are not super sweet and super tasty.

*If you can’t find coconut sugar, substitute it for regular sugar or confectioner’s sugar.
